The History of Troop 121

In April of 1924, Troop No. 1 of Clinton New Jersey was given a charter from the Boy Scouts of America, then headquartered in New York City.

This date was found in a typewritten charter renewal document dated May 16, 1927.  It lists April of 1924 as the original charter date and is signed by the very first Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America, James E. West. The document is also signed by the Hon. Calvin Coolidge, President of the United States who was the honorary President of the Boy Scouts of America.   This is the earliest hard copy record we have for the troop.

Sometime in the following 14 years, "Troop No. 1 of Clinton, New Jersey" became "Troop 121".   We consider 1938 the founding year for Troop 121.  Clinton Presbyterian Church has been the chartering organization of Troop 121 for the entirety of its tenure.  It is likely one of the longest continuous charters in the Boy Scouts of America.
